Party Time! Excellent!

-Wayne Campbell (Mike Meyers)

As a the biggest Wayne’s World fan, never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would get to see Wayne’s World on the big screen. The film was made 25 years ago, 3 years before I was born. I could only image how the experience would have been back in 1992 with a “Generation X” audience  or as I like to call them: the fortunate generation that was able to have likes of Kurt Cobain (Nirvana).

For those of you who yet haven’t had the pleasure of watching this film, it’s a “Saturday Night Live skit- turned film.” In fact, it is the first Saturday Night Live skit to become a major motion picture and many were skeptical of it becoming a success. Little did they know, this film would generate 183.1 million dollars. It stars Saturday Night Live legends, Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey, Rob Lowe and it’s directed by Penelope Spheeries (The Little Rascals). The premise focus on Wayne Campbell (Mikes Meyers) who breaks the fourth wall. A genius move if you ask me. The duo star in a popular, late-night, public access cable show in Aurora, Illinois. It’s a film with lots of humor, heart, and memorable quotes that I use everyday, back when rated R films were PG-13.  I can stress how much I love this film.

The film also honors my hometown of Milwaukee by having Wayne and Garth reenacting the intro to Laverne & Shirley (which always makes me laugh) and have Alice Cooper explain the history of Milwaukee and how its the only city to have ever had elected three socialists mayors.

To celebrate 25 years of laughter, Paramount had an exclusive showing nationwide that took place the 7th and 8th of February. Being the biggest Wayne’s World fan, I was able to attend one of these showings and found a surprisingly amount of people attending as well. I’ve never been to a theater where everyone was enjoying themselves.

In case if you missed the showing, The city of Aurora is also having Wayne’s World related events going on through out the city. Festive events occurring the first first of every month for the next six months. That’s February through July with most of the events being free of charge. Plans include a look-alike contest and an air guitar competition (natch), plus screenings of the cult classic, and more. How exciting is that! In the mean time, you can view this film for free if you are a Amazon Prime member or have the channel Encore. Other wise, you are able to rent it on Youtube, Google Play, or on iTunes.
